950, KJR is reporting and has confirmed that Ryan Franklin has tested positive for a banned substance and will be suspended 10 games by Major League Baseball. HE will talk with the media around 11:00 am this morning in Detroit.
This becomes another example of how outrageous the steroid and banned substance problem is and was inside Major League Baseball. When a player like Franklin is involved it opens up the entire roster of every team as potential users.

I think the problem people have with most Steroids are that they are illegal. If Franklin was caught doing Cocain or Robbing a Liquor store the outrage would be out there because he was doing an illegal activity, shouldn't doing steroids be the same?
Honestly, I could really care less about steroids and their effect on the game. Personally, I am a big Bonds fan and loved going to a game in SF and seeing him hit. However, if there are rules against it and again since it is actually ILLEGAL to possess steroids I guess they have to stop
I wish Selig would impose the penalties he was talking about earlier when the rash of minor leaguers were suspended and really put some teeth into this thing. Ten days isn't nearly enough to dissuade a lot of players from taking their chances. His plan was the following, if memory serves:
1st offense- 50 game suspension
2nd offense- 100 game suspension
3rd offense- Lifetime ban
That would put an end to most of this and level the playing field.
I'm sorry but my sense of morality must be more sensitive than most. Frankly, it's a asinine to equate robbery AND personal drug use. They just aren't the same, no matter what big brother might say. If the masses were less like sheep the moral out rage for those crimes would be much different because the "crimes" are much different. In fact IMO 2 of those aren't crimes. It's just a giant funding mechanism...

This opens Pandora's Box for all MLB pitchers. I had to take steroids for a nasty allergy breakout (prescribed) and COULD NOT BELIEVE the effect it had on my throwing arm (little pain, quick recovery time). It was not mental. I've been waiting for MLB to target pitchers - hurray, there is hope for my kids to get drafted!!! Now Locke needs to include velocity (MPH) stats in his "Steroid - No Steroid" vote. You have to ask yourself, has the average MLB fastball went up in MPH because of steroids or better instruction. Gee, let me think about that one.

Personal Drug use and robbery may not be necesarily equal but they are both illegal acts. Notice you didn't say anything about my cocaine reference. If he had been suspended for being coked up know one would care.
As I said before I really don't care one way or another because players are always going to find ways to cheat and I think it is humorous that they think this will stop kids from doing them...if I were a kid and I wanted to be a baseball player I would use them up until I got my foot in the door..the money would be worth it.
You know, I just don't get why these guys keep saying, "I didn't knowingly take a steroid" but are unwilling to tell us what they did take. If I got popped for a positive steroid test and I actually didn't knowingly take anything with a steroid in it, I would be giving the test lab everything that I took to see what the culprit was, then I would sue the pants off the supplement company that supplied the stuff with the banned substance in it if it wasn't on the label. Until that happens, I have no respect for any of these guys.

Take a look at Dale Murphy’s last seven years in the majors (a baseline for the "natural" decline of the human body – Dale was as straight as an arrow). Just imagine what Dale’s numbers would have been if he was on this stuff.
Dale Murphy was one of the greatest hitters I’ve ever seen in my life time (nice guy too, met him at FanFest). Murphy has been a "bubble" hall-of-fame candidate for sometime now. How many other Dale Murphy’s are there? Would you choose Murphy over Palmeiro in light of this new evidence? It’s a no-brainer for me.
I’m not convinced that Palmeiro is a "first ballot - every ballot" as Jason Stark wrote. I think Jason jumped the gun and should have put more thought into his response.
