FRANK HUGHES WROTE AN AMAZING PIECE ON NATE IN PORTLAND

New Nate | TheNewsTribune.com | Tacoma, WA: "One almost expects McMillan to pine for Seattle, to second-guess his decision to leave the only NBA organization he has ever known, to recognize the challenges of youth on this Blazers team and yearn for the winning ways he helped build with the Sonics last season.

Quite the contrary, McMillan is basking in this new life. He is a visitor to a foreign country, learning the language and customs of a new culture. His drive to work is fresh, his office has new, different walls, his voice is being heard by fresh sets of ears. He is a man in infancy, a man with a new long-term lease on his life."

Letting Nate leave is going to haunt the Supes for many, many years. Portland will be in the finals in about 3 seasons, mark my words.

I agree. I think Nate is going to do special things with that Portland roster. Miles will ether be a stud or he will be gone and the same goes for big Zack. The NBA better watch out in about 3 years. I really like that Outlaw kid.

Nate is going to bring a lot of discipline to the Blazers that they didn't have before. Guys like Ruben Patterson probably won't be around for very long. I checked did his background check on the net and he has like 20 different infractions on his record. (And it isn't because his driving is poor).LOL
I thought it was funny that he banned headbands for the team. Nate will have that team turned around soon and as far as the Sonics are concerned, they will win 49 games max this year and will have a harder time because teams like Minnesota are going to be better than last year. Go Sonics! Kick Portland's ass!!!!

Denver is going to be real good too. Utah will probably be pretty decent as well.

Im confused...if Nate was such a great coach why did he only go to the playoffs twice with the Sonics? Will some magical dust rub off on him in Portland that will lead his poorly made team to the Finals?

Dude now you're just looking for an argument, read the article in the times, he was asked to play like Dallas, by a bunch of old stuffy white guys who no nothing about basketball (stick to coffee bitches) that didn't work so Nate switched, ever since he switched we've been real, real good. What is it with you, DAMN.

I guess I was impressed with last years job but the previous years his teams would start out strong and then always collapse. If that is all because he was doing what he was told by the management team that sure doesn't seem to make him the leader y'all make him out to be.

I don't know why I am a "company man". You don't see me saying that this team is a championship contender or has no holes in it. I have gone on the record numerous times saying that the Weiss hiring will be a HUGE mistake...just because I don't agree with all of your thoughts does not mean I agree with what the Sonics do all the time.

He had to go against his bosses just to get some wins, I respect that. That's a true leader, a man who knows when to cut ties with the morons upstairs for the good of his own squad.

I was surpised to see that Nate said he doesn't feel like he belongs in Seattle anymore...It seems to me that the fans have gone out of there way to show respect for his departure...to so quickly feel unwanted would make it seem that he wasn't that happy with the city in the first place the last couple of years...which seems odd

I also found it intersting that he quotes one of the reasons for leaving the team was because he felt that he had already taught them all that they could be taught and players like Nick and Luke and Rashard would start tuning him out.

Considering he is with the youngest team in the conference that is guaranteed to struggle for the first couple of years it seems like he would be setting himself up to leave again right after they had become successful.

He didn't agree with managment. He didn't like them meddling in what he was doing, they are idiots and he has a brilliant basketball mind. He didn't like the fact that they gave him no real control over who the team was drafting. All in all he felt disrespected (I don't blame him, Howard and Wally are morons) and wanted nothing more than to screw the Sonics management. He loved the fans and the city but working for morons like that would make anyone want to bounce.

Why would that make him feel as if he didn't belong when he was visiting his family in Seattle? Also, do you think that opinion will cause his son to think about going somewhere besides UW to play college ball? I hear he is pretty good
