SIMULBLOG FOR SEAHAWKS V. JAGS

HAWKS LOSE THE OPENER --- HASSELBACK WAS TERRIBLE AND THE OFFENSE WAS WELL BELOW PAR IN THE SECOND HALF. THE DEFENSE SHOWED SIGNS OF BEING MUCH IMPROVED THOUGH STILL PUNISHED BY THE BIG BALLS.

SCAN DOWN AND YOU WILL SEE MY RUNNING COMMENTARY IN THE SIMULBLOG. THIS WRITTEN AS THE GAME HAPPENS.

PLACE YOUR COMMENTS IN THE COMMENT ZONE.

THINGS TO WATCH (Green is post-game response)
1) Penetration of Jags defensive Tackles -- they had huge impact on the Hawks ability to run.
2) Sean Locklear making his first start at right tackle -- biggest play of the game he was blown up. He got beat on two or three occasions.
3) Can Bobby Engram get open as the #2 wide reciever? Yes. he was very active in the middle of the field. They moved him to slot in the 3 wide reciever set.
4) Thrid down conversions. Last year the Hawks were awful, the year before brilliant . Hawks once again were very poor on 3rd downs.
5) Mental game of Stevens. Without Mili Stevens will have to play a lot of snaps in the heat. Seemed to be a non-issue.
6) Big plays allowed. That was the killer last season. Jimmy Smith crushed them on big plays.
7) Can the Hawks get any pass rush. It was better then last season. At times it was very poor and moreso the Hawks were terrible on the blitz getting to the QB.

OPENING DRIVE -- JAGS WITH THE FOOTBALL -- DRIVE STARTS AT THE HAWKS 40.
Hawks fumble the opening kickoff. Scobee makes a nice return but fumbles.
This is as brutal a beginning as you can have to a season
This reminds me of the Rams game last year when they came out and threw on the first 11 plays.
The Jags have threw on the first 4 plays until they ran Matt Jones on a trick play
Reggie Williams cost the Jags a timeout by not being on the field
Defense stiffs and hold the Jags to a field goal
JAGS LEAD 3-0 -- 6 PLAYS 34 YARD DRIVE.

OPENING DRIVE FOR HAWKS -- TRAIL 3-0 -- START AT THE 20
We are going to chart Alexander's success rate today as a runner. Success being 40% of first down yardage, 60% of the first down on second down and the first down on thrid.
This is not an Alexander strength and it drives Holmgren nuts
Stroud, the great D-Tackle of the Jags blows up the Hawks first run play.
drive dies after Alexander -2 yard run.
PUNT

JAGS BALL -- 8:54 LEFT 1st QUARTER -- START AT 20 -- LEAD 3-0
Penalty pushes Jags 3rd and 2 to a 3rd and 7. -- Leftwitch to Jones converts first down
Leftwitch is sitting in shotgun and has all day to throw. He has completed 6 of his first 7 throws.
This is a brutal start. The Jags are just slicing the Hawks defense up.
Hawks brought 6 on 3rd and 5 and still didn't get to Leftwitch.
41 YARD FIELD GOAL GOOD -- JAGS LEAD 6-0 3:49 left in 1st Quarter.

HAWKS BALL -- 3:45 LEFT 1ST QUARTER -- START AT 20 -- TRAIL 6-0
Engram moves to the slot in the three wide reciever set.
END OF FISRST QUARTER
Alexander in the first quarter has a success rate of just 1 for 5. (see above for defintion)
Hasselback had all day to throw on a 3rd and 7 and Jurevicius got behind the defense.
TOCHDOWN -- HASSELBACK TO JUREVICIUS FOR 33 YARDS.
HAWKS LEAD 7-6 -- 8 PLAYS 80 YARDS.

JAGS BALL -- 14:47 LEFT 2ND QUARTER -- START AT 26 -- HAWKS LEAD 7-6
Hamlin laid a vintage Hamlin hit on Jimmy Smith. Smith has 3 catches. Lets see what he finishs with.
Lofa Tatupu made a great play stuffing Taylor. Great anticipation.
Hawks are trying to throw a ton of looks. A moment ago they rushed just 2.
Then on the next play they brought 6 and stunted the lineman. It rushed Leftwitch.
PUNT

HAWKS BALL -- 12:58 LEFT 2ND QUATER -- START AT 11 -- HAWKS LEAD 7-6
Walter Jones is unreal.
Hawks are really firing at the Jags cornerbacks.
Interesting move. Engram is still playing the slot and JJ is going to the outside reciever in three reciever sets.
3rd and 9 and Matt throws a awful ball. This is the type of play that losses a game.
INTERCEPTION -- TERRIBLE - TERRIBLE THROW BY HASSELBACK

JAGS BALL -- 9:23 LEFT 2ND QUARTER -- START AT HAWKS 33 -- TRAIL 7-6
Hawks defense did a great job last time holding the Jags to a field goal. Can they do it again.
Incredible run defense from the Hawks-- stuff the Jags on back to back plays 2nd and 3rd and 1 Chuck Darby in the middle of it all.
MISSED FIELD GOAL 43 YARD FIELD.
Amazing the Hawks have committed two turnovers in Jags territory and only have only allowed 3 points.

HAKWS BALL -- 7:13 LEFT 2ND QUARTER -- START AT 34 -- LEAD 7-6
Do we have our first drop? Bannister should have made that play. No surprise he hasn't played any games in the exhibition season and is not a reciever.
No running game at all. Alexander success rate is 1 for 7.

JAGS BALL -- 6:19 LEFT 2ND QUARTER -- START AT THE 26 -- TRAIL 7-6
Wistrom gets a great lick on Leftwitch on an outside rush
Deep ball. How does this happen again. Herndon got beat by Smith. Herndon had no help. 45 yards on the pick up.
Rocky Bernard sack.
4 man rush gets no where close and Leftwitch finds a wide open Jimmy Smith for a 31 yard TD.
Erick Kramer is wrong it is not DD Lewis it was Boulwaire that got turned around and burned.
The Hawks defense was totally awful on that play.
TOUCHDOWN LEFTWITH TO SMITH -- JAGS LEAD 13-7

HAWKS BALL -- 4:17 LEFT 2ND QUARTER -- START AT THE 20 -- TRAIL 13-7
Alexander boom or bust -- 35 yard pick up.
Alexander has success on his last 3 runs.
Wow !!! What a great drive. 80 yards to answer the Jags TD. That is big time.
Alexander was huge on the drive.
HASSELBACK TO JACKSON FOR 9 YARD TD.
7 PLAYS - 80 YARDS -- HAWKS LEAD 14-13.

2ND HALF

JAGS BALL -- OPENING 2ND HALF -- START AT 22 -- TRAIL 14-13
Nifty play out of the Jags-- Jones, the former QB at Arkansas, took an end a round and then ran an option out of it. Hawks played it well. Good fundamentals.
Jags are suddenly getting big run numbers from Taylor. His last three carries are for 6 or mroe yards.
I haven't heard Marcus Tubbs name at all in the this game.
Terrible tackle by Andre Dyson. None of the new guys are able to tackle the way Lucas did.
Terrible defense. 3rd and 6 and the Jags give it to Taylor and the Hawks defensive line gets manhandled.
Are we seeing heat have its impact. This is a long drive and the Hawks aren't making plays.
Jumpball to Jimmy Smith over the top of Marcus Trufant for a Touchdown.
JAGS TAKE THE LEAD ON 12 PLAY 78 YARD DRIVE TO OPEN HALF.

HAWKS BALL - 1ST OF SECOND HALF -- START AT 29 --- TRAILING 20-14
Sean Locklear got blown up for the first time.
Moris on a draw on 3rd and 9 --- why?
PUNT

JAGS BALL -- 6:34 LEFT 3RD QUARTER -- START AT 21 -- LEADING 20-14
Hawks are brining the blitz but they can't get to Leftwitch.
The Hawks offense just killed the defense. The D was on the field for 11 plays and then the Hawks offense only stayed on the floor for 4 plays and a tired D is back on the field.
Most recent run plays: 6,6,6,8,3,0,7,1,8,5 -- that is a really bad sign.
This game is in the balance.
Great plays -- back to back -- Trufant blitz forces fumble and 4 man rush collapses on Leftwitch.
PUNT

HAWKS BALL -- 1:46 LEFT 3RD QUARTER -- START AT 7--- TRAILING 20-14
The Hawks have lost the field goal postion game from the first play
Alexander's success rate is 4 of 12 runs
3 and out. 2 drives in the 3rd Quarter and the Hawks have 13 yards and 1 first down.

JAGS BALL -- :46 LEFT IN 3RD QUARTER --- START AT 42 -- LEADING 20-14
The Hawks defense was on the field for 12 minutes of the 3rd Quarter
Rocky Bernard nice tackle for a loss.
4TH QUARTER
Very clutch again by the defense 3 and out. The defense is keeping the Hawks in the game.
PUNT

HAWKS BALL -- 14:39 LEFT IN 4TH QUARTER -- START AT 2 --- TRAILING 20-14 Warrick makes an awful decision. Takes the punt at the 2 yard line. He just cost the Hawks 20 yards on the most important drive of the game. These are plays that losing teams make.
Hawks have started the last two drives at the 7 and and the 2
Huge play to open drive -- Hassell to Stevens for 20 yards.
This would be huge. Hawks hit midfield. Next play they get sacked Ouch !!!
Hawks follow the sack with a delay of game -- shooting themselves in the foot
Did Jackson make the catch? It looked close and the Hawks don't challange. Timeouts are precious and after last years bad luck and bad choices they must have decided not to lose a timeout.
PUNT -- big to move the ball into Jags territory. The Hawks should get two more shots at it.

JAGS BALL -- 9:04 LEFT IN 4TH QUARTER -- START AT 25 -- LEADING 20-14
Is that 3rd Quarter going to come into play now.
Hawks defense does it again. This group has had a very good day.

HAWKS BALL -- 6:29 LEFT IN 4TH QUARTER -- START AT 15 -- TRAILING 20-14
What a disaster. Interception on Hasselback. A awful throw.
Hasselback flushed when Locklear gets beat throws across his body and across the field and it is hangs in the air and is intercepted. This is a awful play. Hasselback just choked. Flat out choked.
The offense was awful in the second half and it cost this team the game.
All this talk about how great Hasselback is has to be re-examined . He was below average last year and he make two game losing throws today. This was flat out brutal.

JAGS BALL -- AFTER INTERCEPTION
Defense holds but Hasselback's awful play gives up another 3 points
HAWKS TRAIL 23-14 --9 POINTS THE SAME THEY GAVE UP ON TURNOVERS.

HAWKS BALL -- TRAILING 23-14 WITH 4:00 LEFT.
Jags blitz and crush Hasselback who fumbles and the Hawks lose.

More on Hasselback
I am really disapointed in how he played today.
Did he make any throw that most of the Quarterbacks in the NFL couldn't make.

We can't let Dyson try and stop a HB one on one. It will never work. He is too small for that.

Just dont think we have the Defensive talent...looks like this is the 10th consecutive year with the worst blitzing team in the league

The inability to blitz is amazing

Ouch...What was Hasselbeck thinking with that throw.....jesus christos.

He must of thought that he has a free play, but PLEASE....

My word. We have a TON of things to fix if we are going to be contenders. Why does out offensive play book seem so bland and boring? It isn't fun to watch sometimes.

Myk said...

Loooks like we have a loooooooong year of football ahead of Seahawks/Huskies fans

Myk said...

Why is our offense bland? Sure it looked like crap in the second half but that first half it was clicking and they were going down the field. It might look so bland because Alexander is such a poor RB

Raul Duke said...

that throw that Hasselbeck made for an interception in the fourth that gave the Jags the field go that won the game was one of the worst efforts/throws I have ever seen. It looked like he quit on that play and just chucked it up for grabs. Horrible!

Myk said...

How in the hell did it look like he quit on that play? Was it a horrible horrible (did I say horrible?) throw? Yes. But there is no way you can say he quit, if anything he was trying waaaaaaay too hard

All right Seahawk fans, vent on 3. Ready? 1…2…3…VENT!!!

Where are all the guys that sit in the “Hawks Nest”?

Seriously what do you want to do? I think this year is the year you fire the Coach. How many bad/mediocre seasons does this guy get before he is done? I can’t help but be interested to see if Seahawk fans care.

What happened to Hasselbeck on the last play? He looked like he may have hurt his hand one some guy’s helmet. Then as he walks off the field he throws a tantrum?

BTW how long can San Fran actually lead the Northwest Division? LOL

Holy crap did anyone see the Texas / Ohio State game. Great football is being played somewhere in this country. What I learned this weekend is that next year when the Seahawks are still looking for someone to play MLB they can get one from Ohio State.

Tonight we get TO and Mike Vick in the same game! To bad TO can’t learn a lesson from Vick and not talk. This is going to be a great game. Hopefully the Falcons can fair a little better this time against the Eagles D. This will be the championship match up in the NFC.

Tyrone,

I am the worst recruiter in the history of football. I know this and now you know it. I'm sorry. I am the biggest retard ever and am solely responsible for the collapse of a once proud institution in college football. You are a good coach and we all see how well charlie is doing with your players at Notre Dame. I hope you can get some of your players in there at Washington, because mine are a joke, the only good one is Stanback and he came here because he is a Seattle boy and wanted to be a Husky. His parents warned him that I'm the biggest joke ever but to his disservice he didn't listen.

Husky fans,

You all get a free pass to yell any obsenity you can think of whenever you see me in public I deserve it. I am an offensive consultant now for the Seahawks and I admit that I stole the playbook for sundays game at Jacksonville and replaced it with one of my own design. I'm sorry, I'm addicted to losing football games I'm a SADSACK. I should pull a Kobain I know but I can't I have more football to ruin. God please stop me, I'm a danger to football everywhere.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Why does trufant get beat by any and every reciever in the NFL??? I know when opposing WR's see him across from them on the field they say "awwww YEAH, PAYDAY"!!! I'm sure Reggie told J. Smith "Hey, coke man, I used this dude like a condom everytime we played, so have fun dude, yeah you can probably get coked up and still have a great day against this clown". What a loser can Rhodes start Herndon and Dyson, PLEASE. I really miss Ken Lucas, he was the best corner the hawks have seen since Springsy. Why did those jokers let him leave, I would have promised him that trufant would have washed his drawers everyday if he stayed. DON'T DRAFT COUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Biggie said...

Are the Seahawks so disrespected by the NFL that we get Eric Kramer and some other CLOWN commentating our games? Was that not the worst play-by-play ever? Those two idiots should be shot.

This is just the first game but it feels like this is how the season is going to go all year. Unless Holmgren gets us to the Superbowl, he should be fired. His playbook is soooooo f*ckin boring. I for one think we should let Alexander go next season, any rookie runningback taken in the draft thiis year would be more aggressive and have more heart. Why is this clown always pussy-footing around in the backfield? I mean the O line has to open a gaping hole for this idiot to do anything positive. Scrap this team offensively and Trufant. Bring in a coach with some balls, please. Yes if the hawks make it to the big game my tune will change quicker than I can say Trufant sucks but still, that was painful, I know it was 120 plus degrees down there but come on man this is the NFL, these cats just got back from 90 plus everyday in Cheney right? There is nothing more depressing than a weekend in which both the Hawks and Dawgs lose. That was wack!

There have been several comments this morning regarding the secondary for Seattle. I watched this game twice. The linebackers on the Seahawks are not making plays soon and often enough. The line-backing crew must become more of a factor during the pass and during the run.

Sonic EJ said...

Maybe that is because the LBs suck!

Diezel said...

First I am not that dissapointed in the Hawks game as I stated in a earlier post that this would be a tough win having to travel cross country along with the heat/humidity and the early start time. That being said Matt Hasselbeck played like crap!! we just gave this guy 40 millon dollars in the off season and he goes out and throws 3 pics one of them being flat out unexcusable.

The defense once again was getting torched. Where was Marcus Tubbs at?? this is another first round bust!! and lofu, he played ok, but from watching local/ticket yesterday I think either Odell Thurman or Channing Crowder would have been better picks and we wouldn't have had to trade up to get them eother. Good job Ruskell. The secondary looked HORRIBLE!!! they made a aging 36 year old look like freakin Randy Moss!..

I had called into Softys show earlier in the year saying that Marcus Trufant was questionable, he basically ripped me saying I didn't know football, really u fat doochebag, maybe it's u that doesn't know football. The guy got torched !!
Once again the special teams looked bad also. I am not giving up hope because as bad as we looked the Cards and Rams looked worse, so there is room for improvement. If Matt plays like that anymore though it could be a long season.

I really am so pissed about seattle football right now i cant stand it.This is almost like Miami from about 94-2001 when they were horrible, so I admit this can be turned around I just dont think TY is the guy. We need to shell out the farm and try and pursuade Barry Alvarez hear from Wisconsin, hell I would hire Barry as coach and promise the AD role when he wants to retire. How much longer are we going to blame gilbi, thats beating a dead horse. Look at Ron Zook he's winning with Ron Turners crappy players as well as Weiss.

Biggie said...

True, but Gilby really sucks.

Myk said...

Seahawks:

I agree that the loss is probably not as bad as it appears the morning after. Really most of us didn't expect them to win this game right?

I think that the biggest problem we have on offense is Shaun Alexander, he kills us in two ways:

1) He is such a pussy and NEVER runs hard if it is a draw play. The reason he can never get those tough yards at the LOS is because he is running so damn slow that anyone LB or DL or CB with momentum can't help but tackle him. Unless it is a play where he knows he can cut back and try and get a long run or a play where he is going into the endzone he doesn't accelerate at all. I HATE WATCHING HIM PLAY..JUST HATE IT DRIVES ME CRAZY

2) I think the dynamic between him and Holmgren kills the team. Everyone says that there is no way that a 1500 yard 20 TD per year RB can hurt you and I think that the only reason he gets all those TDs and yards is because Holmgren is scared to hear him bitch and moan about getting his numbers. Everyone would agree that Holmgren is a QBs coach but since he has this supposed great talent at RB he gets distracted trying to make sure he gets his numbers. I think the Hawks would be 1000xs better if we got a RB that was more the style of Dorsey Levens and let Holmgren call the game like he really wants.

Myk said...

Huskies:

They were just flat out horrible on Saturday. The team seriously has no confidence. If they get a lead you can see that they expect the other team to come back on them. However, Diezel again I just don't understand your feelings towards Ty. Wow everyone look Ron Zook led his Fightin' Illini to two wins over Rutgers and San Jose St. Something tells me that they are a little less talented than California. Notre Dame did do a good job of beating Michigan (although most would agree that it was luck) which only proves that Ty can recruit talent..give him some time. If you think Ty can't win a big game when was the last time Wisconsin has won a big game?

Finally, Keith Gilbertson I completely agree with you. All of the Husky fan anger should be directed to this one man and how awful of a coach he was.

myk...first off how about last year when Wisconsin beat Purdue who at the time I believe was undefeated and Kyle Orton was the front runner for the heisman trpohy before that game. Regardless of who they played Illinois is 2-0 I would love the dawgs to be 2-0. Ty as u state is a good recruiter?? did u not hear all these former ND alumms last year questioning if they should lower the addmissions standards because they had NO TALENT!!
I will credit Ty with winning against Michigan last year but it wasn't in the big house!! and don't you think there was a reason that all the alumms wanted him fired even though ND hasnt fired a coach in the middle of his contract EVER!!

I think u underestimate the coach's value just look at Larry coacker, John Gruden and Larry Brwon as examples.
Obviously Charlie Weiss is getting out of the ND players that Ty couldn't, I could live with close games but to blown out by Cal at home like that is down right unacceptable. You think I am hard on Ty look at Mack Brown at Texas he's won 10 games 4 years in a row but cant beat OU , hence the reason he's on the hot seat every year.

How can you not be critical when the place he left is 2-0 and we are 0-2 I guess the 24th is the biggest game of the year if Ty gets hammered it shows what kind of coach he is to me and LOTS of other alumms!!!!!

Diezel said...

myk aka Wally Walker... how about ripping Mattt Hasselbeck or the Defense mainly the DB's. What could Sahun do?? there were not many holes and we were down most of the game so there was nothing he could do. But i agree he could do a little better.

CHILL BRO SMOKE A BOWL, TAKE A BONG HIT DO SOMETHING BUT TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND ACCEPT THAT WE HAVE TO PAY DUES ALL OVER AGAIN, IT WON'T BE EASY BUT TY WILL GET US THERE DUDE, EVENTUALLY. LOL DAMN!!!!!!

TY has to recruit locally, we need to find the emtmans, the choracks, lester towns, reggie willams, paokoas, milloys, and get lucky and get a blue chipper like Nap or beno bryant

i will admit though that i never would have guessed that Isaiah would play this well!!!! I probably am still bitter over the 3 bills I lost last year when i took udub plus 37.5 vs SC and to see them lose 38-0 I wanted to kill myself. This is seeming like deja vu all over again. Last year the first game vs. Fresno st. the d looked good the O sucked then it just fell apart.

Diezel,

- Sure I would prefer 2-0 as well but how can you compare Air Force and Cal to Rutgers and San Jose St. I mean it is just stupid for you to be bitching when the things aren't comparable.

- Wow Larry Coker is a great head coach? Lets see he took Butch Davis' players and led them to a national championship and now that they have his players they aren't contending anymore.

- I accept that coaches in the NCAA have a lot to do with the teams success and that has to do recruiting players. They have a direct connection to the players they bring into the program. When another coach comes in he is using another guys players, plain and simple.

- It is really easily for me not to compare Notre Dame and Washington and be critical. I am not sure how more clear I can be about this but WASHINGTON IS NOT A GOOD TEAM. They have crap for talent at WR (which is amazing since Rick recruited like 20 WRs in his last two years) and DB. I would be lots of money that if we had better DBs our team would be much better. Instead since we have no talent we are starting guys who are slow and can't cover. All of this can't be Ty's fault.

- The reason they fired Ty at Notre Dame midseason is because Notre Dame has boosters like you who think that their team should just automatically be good and therefore anytime a guy comes in he must win and win alot right away. No one gives any coach any sort of patience. Just think if they had fired Lorenzo Romar before the OSU game...

- If you can't stand a 6-5 season you are in for a world of dissapointments for the next couple years...

Sonic EJ said...

It is so funny to hear Seahawk fans complain about Shawn Alexander.

Hey Hawk fans, the reason you guys suck is the defense. The D can’t stop anyone and you want to complain about Alexander? Just wait, he will leave after this season and the offence will sputter. If you think Hasselbeck gets hit a lot now just wait.

BTW someone needs to tell Coach that the 2001 Rams were a fluke and you can’t win with only offense and no defense.

Myk,

This is a step in the right direction for you.

I really liked that thing about being the worst blitzing team for like the 10th straight year. Try and stay away from some regurgitated Softy-show banter about how you don’t like the way Alexander looks while he runs. I understand everyone hates him in Seattle. Problem is, he is your second best player behind Walter and national sports fans will think you are crazy if you can’t respect Alexander’s skills.

Biggie said...

Diezel,

I hear you bro. But just be patient, it's times like this that will make the good times that much sweeter. We Huskies are not used to this I know, and yes it sucks worse than Groz w/ Gas, but I have faith that it will get better.

Sonic ej,
Yes Seahawk fans bitch about Alexander (myself included) and I will say this, every year I bitch about him, and every year he is one of the best backs in the league. Seattle has a love/hate relationship w/ Alexander. Once he gets into the open field he is awesome (though I would like to see him not get tackled so easily) but can you imagine how bad he would be without this offensive line?? He is a great back w/ little heart, He doesn't have that burst that a RB needs to have when he is in the backfield, I just wish he didn't pick and choose so much and just GO!!! I really didn't like how little Holmgren used Stevens in that game against the Jags, I think he was a huge mis-match against their LB's. I don't really like how Holmgren seems to forget about his Tightends for like 20 minute stretches in the "we want the ball and were gonna score" game Milio was awesome in the first half and then it seems like Holmgren just completely forgot about him in the second half. "The play" that Matt threw to Bannister and got picked, why didn't they go to Mili, He's got much better hands than Bannister and he's a big tough dude. But whatever hindsight is 20/20, I just hope Holmgren doesn't forget about Stevens against Atlanta, he could have a monster game against the Falcons.

Myk said...

Sonics EJ,
Wow every new post you put on here makes you look more and more like an idiot. Tell me what has all those yards and all those TDs really amounted to? Have you ever thought that maybe if he didn't try so hard to break the long run which means he gets caught at or behind the line of scrimmage 50% of the time it might actually allow the Hawks to put together a nice long drive and keep the defense off the field??

I don't know but the Jacksonville game sure didn't make me think that the defense is why we lost. Lets see do you think it might have been the 5 TOs and complete lack of offensive production in the first half..I dunno.

Any person that actually watches a Seahawks game and would tell you that you were confident that Shaun could get your three yards to win the Super Bowl is a liar. He runs slow and tries to avoid hits it is pretty damn obvious, why don't you try watching a game from time to time. They are usually on Sunday's around 1 o'clock.

Jackass

Myk said...

Black,
Im not sure that it is Holmgren that forgets about the TE or Matt. Seems like when he gets flustered and tries to hard he always looks for DJ or Engram. Guess that is who they feel comfortable with. And I completely agree with you Shaun does not have heart unless you consider heart being only wanting to do the things that make him look good. He is an awful blocker, doesn't run his routes hard (we are the only West Coast offense ever that has a RB who doesn't catch balls) and unless he is running a play that he thinks can be broken big he runs slow to the line almost like he is walking.

My question is that if Shaun Alexander is soooooooooooo good why didn't one freakin' team trade even a 2nd round pick for him this year. People who like him act like he is a top 5 running back and yet no other team will touch him. Yet when a player like Cory Dillon goes on the block who is older, doesn't put up the same numbers and was considered a bad player in the locker room gets the best team in the league decides to use a second round pick to acquire him...and yet good old Shaun stays with the 'Hawks I think he is in for a big suprise next year when he tries to get that next contract

Myk,

Easy man, I may be an asshole but I’m not an idiot. I did watch the game and I think you might be a little too close to the situation to think clearly about this.(Homer)

What do you think about JAX putting up 26 on the Hawks? The Jags don’t have a very scary offense unless they are pounding on the Seahawks.

Alexander did not have a big game because the Jags run defense is one of the best in the game. That being said, 71 yards on 14 carries is not bad. Hawk fans act like it is their right to have a top 5 back in the league. Alexander is probably top 10 deal with it.

Could it be that the turnovers were forced by an aggressive defense? The first one was on the opening kickoff return. I don’t remember the second but I know the last three were at the end of the game. The Hawks got down in the Second half and had to pass. At that point they were screwed. Why were they down? Because Jimmy Smith torched the Hawks D like he was Randy Moss all day. Now is Jimmy Smith the same as Moss or does the Hawks D leave a lot to be desired?

It is not all about the Hawks myk. JAX kicked their ass anyway you look at it. This was a classic example of an average AFC team beating up on a average NFC team. Are you surprised?

EJ,

- I knew the Seahawks would probably lose, teams going from the West Coast to the East Coast almost always lose.

- Whoa Whoa Whoa...Shaun Alexander isn't a top 5 back? The way people who support him sure better think he is a top 5 back because if he isn't than he is a complete waste of space.

- Something tells me that if the Hawks could string together a nice long drive their Defense wouldnt have been so tired playing in 120 degree heat. The Hawks went three and out in like 5 of their last 6 drives that sure doesn't help your defense.

- Quoting Shaun's line of 14 rushes for 73 yards is a perfect example of why I hate him and why the people who support him are just stupid. Wow that does look good he averaged 5.2 yards a carry! Who wouldn't want a guy like that right? Well lets take away his 36 yard run and recalculate his stats. 13 carries for 37 yards...that translates into 2.8 yards a carry!!! I will bet you that if you took away one other run that was probably 10 yards you would see that he always gets one or two carries that inflate his stats but everything else amounts to jack shit

Myk said...

I needed to do this to prove my point:

Shaun Alxender's runs:
36 yards
10 yards
7 yards
6 yards
5 yards
3 yards
2 yards
2 yards
2 yards
2 yards
1 yards
-2 yards
-2 yards

So despite his decent overall numbers they are all a mirage of medicority.

Finally, here is a list of the Time of Possesion on all drives by the Seahawks in the second half:

0:51 seconds
1:56 minutes
5:24 minutes
0:00 seconds
0:48 seconds
1:46 minutes

This might be why the defense got worse and worse as the game when on.

Well dammnit this is a "pro" team, I don't want to hear any flustered shit, the huskies are flustered. This is the West coast offense right? It is an offense where the tightend is supposed to have about 50 catches for about 800 yards and aroud 7 touchdowns and the back should also have quite a few catches right??? Well maybe Holmgren should have his head coaching duties stripped from him too, he should be our QB's coach, since thats all he likes to focus on. Why can people like andy reid and john gruden who are supposed disciples of Holmgren make this offense work? and old mikey seems to have so much trouble with it. I think holmgren has the same problem as joe gibbs; HE'S A FREAKIN DINOSAUR when it comes to player evaluation and adapting to an ever changing NFL. Alexander picks his spots and had a great year last year, but Myk is right on when he states that shaun likes to pick and choose, f*ck that, GO. Anyways when we play our game and utilize every aspect of the WCO we are tough to stop, but that include the TE's and includes the backs catching the ball out of the backfield. If we use alot of Stevens and play how we play and Alwxander has big games and another good season we should still be able to reach 11 - 5. Sonic ej your Raiders will not reach that mark trust me, you guys are behind SD and KC in that division even with moss. GO SEAHAWKS

Black,

I think your comments about the WCO are right on but I think it also proves my point about Shaun Alexander. As you said the WCO focuses on the TE and the RB to get a ton of catches out of the backfield and yet Shaun doesn't even try to run his routes. If you look at people like Gruden and Reid you will see that none of them has had a great RB to work with. Instead they get fast guys who can catch the ball out of the backfield (Westbrook, Garner etc.) because that is what a back is supposed to do in a WCO.

Instead the Seahawks are doing the worst thing possible they are not commiting to the WCO. They are playing WCO with their WR during the passing game and then when they run they are trying to be this smashmouth team. I do not want to be a Holmgren apolgist because well he brought in all the players but the biggest problem the Seahawks have is that they have a back that ABSOLUTELY does not fit into our offense and despite his numbers causes more problems than necessary.

Show me a successful WCO where the RB has only caught 23 balls. It is no wonder that the offense has begun to stall since Shaun decided that it wasn't worth it to run pass routes. What I think is funny is that when he first came to the Hawks that was supposed to be one of his strenghts and he even caught 59 balls three years ago. If he did that this year I think we would be a significantly better team.

Myk,

As far as I can tell you don’t give any credit to the Jag’s D for shutting down the Hawks.

Why not?

Sonic EJ said...

Black,

You are lucky the Seahawks play in the NFC west where not winning the division means you are BAD. If they were in the AFC, 8-8 would be overachieving for this team. We will find out how good the Raiders are soon enough.

I agree with you, 11-5 is what the Hawks could / should be with the talent they have playing in the weak NFC. Problem is they are the Seahawks and they will find away to disappoint you.

It is great to hear the Coach finally take some heat for not winning. How many chances does he get before we all just say he is a product of working with Steve Young and Brett Farve?

Myk,

I agree that Alexander does not fit in the WCO. I also think with the O-line and Alexander being as talented as they are, they should run more and pass less.

BTW has anyone ever, and I mean ever, seen a more boring play book than Holmgren’s?

Mike Barer said...

We need a strong back up quarterback to give Hasselbach a run for his money the way Trent Dilfer did. Otherwise this scenario is going to play out exactly like this every single week.

Biggie said...

LOL wow mike B. that sure was a funny joke about trent dilfer, mr. I'm the worst QB to ever win a superbowl. We do his name is Seneca Wallace. I almos t passed out when Tom Jackson said what I've been thinking for two years know that one of the QB's that won't make it through the year because of a young stud behind him is WHO?????? yes that's right Matt Hasselcrack. That was awesome I should work for friggin NFL LIVE.

Biggie said...

I swear if they gave me Holmgrens job I could win 11 games with this team, I would bet my left nut, that's how confident I am. Just call me Black Armstrong.

Myk said...

EJ,

Yes their defense is pretty good, I havent said anything about the game all I have said is that Shaun Alexander sucks, has no heart and is extremely selfish. I dont think the Seahawks playbook would be as boring if we had a running back come out of the backfield. What makes the Eagles playbook exciting? Westbrook and all the things he can do after the catch.

Regarding the O-line and Alexander's talent. That is your big misconception as I proved above Alexander isn't that talented, or maybe a better way to say it is that he doesn't use his talents 100% of the game. If you ran the ball more he would just have 25 2-3 yard runs and 3 or 4 10-20 yard runs instead of 10 2-3 yard runs and 2 10-20 yard runs.

Black,
We are in serious serious serious trouble if Seneca Wallace needs to come in for Hasselbeck. He isn't that good, look at what Dallas did to them when they blitzed him. He is too short and although his athletic ability is nice it isn't at the Michael Vick level and that is what he would need to be able to succeed in the regular season.

Myk said...

Also, if Holmgren was only good because he had Favre how come Favre and his Packers haven't done anything that great since he has left?

Biggie said...

They beat us in the playoffs.

Sonic EJ said...

myk / black,

So how about those Falcons?

Anyone watch MNF last night?

What do you guys think about Seahawk / Falcons?

Myk said...

Falcons seem to be the real deal. Vick might not put up that great of passing numbers but he just seems to win. Ive said all along that the Hawks even if they have improved or at least stayed the same were in for a tough season because their schedule is very difficult.

I'm not an advocating of firing Ty from the UW post but it looks pretty obvious that they made a big mistake hiring Gilby over Mora Jr. who really wanted the job. He just looks like a really good coach who his players really respect.

OK New Topic..

After reading all of the press on Peyton Manning and how he led them to a victory against Baltimore I have the following poll question...

If Manning came out one week and said any sports writer or NFL commentator could give him oral sex what percentage would jump at the chance? 99.5%? 99.9%?

Surely there has to be one person who wouldn't get on his knees but it doesn't seem like I have found one...

OK I get it he is pretty good and he can like point around the D Line and tell his linemen where to block. We've seen it all before and we now know it is just an act to make himself "look" smart. Sure has helped him in the playoffs huh?

Biggie said...

I feel you're pain dude, they do swing on his nuts like no tomorrow. He's a good QB but has never won the big game so they should wait until then to give him the old polish job.

sorry, your pain.

Yes, but inspite of Trent's limitations, he brought out the best in Hasselback most of the time.

I can see it now Michael jenkins running down the field right by Marcus trufant.

I heard Marcus Tubbs was on the fbi's most wanted list for grand theft, cuz i havent seen him do a damm thang since he got here. And we could have had odell thurman and channing crowder instead of lofu.

I can see why denver wanted to get rid of kelly herndon now.

I wanted to give Rashard Lewis some props for playing in kenny smiths katrina relief game.

I also agree with kanye west's assesment that bush dont give a crap about black people!!!!!!

I read a good point about how this could be a trap game for ATL, they had a short week and they have to make a long trip to the West Coast...hopefully that can help. To bad Vick wasn't on the cover of Madden again

Biggie said...

I hope we're a better team than to have to rely on jet-lag. Bring on Atl that's a good measuring stick for us. If we lose this game after staying in the game last week and losing down the stretch, that's pathetic.

EJ's top 2 reasons to be excited about Sunday:

1.) My Raiders are going to crack some skulls against the ‘Chefs’ and take a step closer to a division title. My authentic Moss jersey should arrive just in time.

2.) The city of Seattle is going to be treated to a new single game record for QB rushing yards (I think the record is like 170 or so). Black has tickets and they sound like they are pretty good. I’m jealous.

GO RAIDERS!

BTW I would say about 100% of the media would like to orally please Manning. He is very good but all the telling his line who to block and fake audible crap puts me to sleep. Manning is the first athlete that I respect as a great player and truly hate at the same time. (Maybe Kobe as well)

Myk said...

EJ,

What I find interesting are the Manning/Brady vs Marino/Montana parallels. To me most people are either a Manning/Marino fan or you are a Brady/Montana fan. Since sports are about winning I am one of the latter.

Nice joke about the Raiders cracking the Chiefs skulls...I mean you don't really think they are going to win right? Or were you one of those delusional Raiders fans that thought they actually had a chance vs New England too?

Biggie said...

ej,

excuse my french but the chiefs are gonna f*ck ya'll up.
Tom Brady is the most overrated athlete ever. If you put Mike Vick in Belichik and Weiss' system the last four years WOW. that shit would be awesome, you have to admit that is a system that you can just plug a QB into (one that can move a little anyways, not a statue like bledsoe).

Myk,

I’m kind of a Steve Young/Mick Vick guy. I thing Marino is probably the best ever (I still don’t like him) and if Manning gets a ring then he will be (you know I hate him). If winning championships is how you evaluate players / teams then I’m surprised you are not a little harder on the Sonics.

Also, yes I am one of those crazy Raiders fans who thought Moss and Co. could beat the PATs. However I have learned from my mistake. I have spent all week praying for lightning to strike Kerry “no one can tell I’m drunk” Collins and force Coach into playing Tui or Walters. Collins or no Collins the ‘Chefs’ are over rated and the Raiders are going to crush them.

My ex used to live in the same apartment complex in kirkland that the original Ahman Green ancident happend... I guess he did a lawerence phillips and drug her ass down the stairs by the hair, it must be a cornhusker thing. I like Vick and his athletic ability but there is no way that you could just plug him into the NE and he would be as good as Brady. How can you argue with a guy who has NEVER lost a playoff game? If Vick was that good he would be able to put up better passing numbers than he does now.

Marino was not the greatest QB ever because he never led his team to a championship.

I am not hard on the Sonics for moves they CAN'T make. If there are things that they could do that would obviously make them better than I would for sure be all over them. But this year they havent done anything wrong they are just a product of the system

Biggie said...

I disagree IMHO you could plug any, ANY starting QB in the NFL today into NE's sys and it would work, even Dilfer.

Myk said...

Then why didn't they do that good with Bledsoe? Same Coaches, same Coordinaters and he was horrible with them for 18 games. Yet when they traded him to Buffalo he had a really good season the next year.

How can you not give Brady credit?...does that mean that ATL has a really really bad system because Vick doesn't look all that great when he is asked to pass. If this is all a system why haven't other teams tried to copy it. The NFL is a total copycat league and yet you don't see people saying oh we are going to start running the New England offense.

Biggie said...

If you read my earlier post you would pick up on the fact that I closed the door on the "what about Bledsoe?" argument. We disagree dude, it's OK.
