Locked on the NFL Audio

Sports Radio 950, KJR's David Locke talked with 2-time National Champion Lofa Tatupu about draft-day jitters, playing as an undersized linebacker, growing through the USC system and other news from Seahawks training camp.

Locke,

Lofa Tatupu would be a good roving linebacker who can rush the passer at any spot and cover the backs coming out of the backfield, almost like a nickel back. If he stays healthy, I think he can be a perfect compiment to Jamie Sharper at that position.

Any interest from the Sonics with regards to Brian Grant just waived by the Lakers?

Enjoy the blog site very much even with the side ramblings by some of the bloggers.

Just what our horrible defense needed another sawed off short LB. The guy was rated no better than a 5-6 rounder and Ruskell trades up to get this guy, if he doesn't produce, I hope people start ripping Ruskell.

I am still wondering when the Sonics are going to do something???? Steven Hunters gone now he's signed to Phili, Duhon's gone, I hear the Bulls are trying to get Brian Grant if thats the case we need to try and get either Curry or Chandler, all these soft Sonic fans are just going to quietly let Rick and Wally get away with this. When the Sonics suck next year I will hate to be the one to say I told you so.

During the day at work I listen to Espn Radio or Rome. I can't stand Softy, G and G, and Dick Fain is such a doochebag. I think I actually had a class with him at the U.

Once again Black you are showing your ignorance.

Ken Lucas had a great year, but we got just as good of a player from the Titans: Andre Dyson. Kelly Herndon is also a good player and a perfect 3rd corner.

Oh and guess what? We got both of them for less then Ken Lucas. You don't have to overpay to win games.

Dyson while not as big as Lucas is much more fluid in coverage and won't be giving up as many huge plays down the field.

We've totally re-vamped our linebackers and have Jamie Sharper, D.D Lewis who are both really good solid football players.

Kevin Bentley and Tracey White are good for depth and Lofa and Niko are both showing good potential at MLB.

I don't understand why you have to bring race up in practically every post you write.

This defense is filled with depth at every position outside of defensive end. That once again, could be the downfall of the Seahawks. But they will still win the division, easily.

Wistrom and Fisher both HAVE to stay healthy.

This team will win between 9-12 games.

T.O. is digging his own grave.

He goes on a halftime television show to whine about a contract that HE SIGNED.

I used to be a huge fan of Owens and I thought him playing in the superbowl was incredible.

However, he's crying about his contract that he signed last year, why did he sign it? I don't understand.

And Artest, that whole sitution was unfortunate and that fan who threw the cup was a the reason why the whole thing went down.

However, he still jumped into the stands. Not to mention, just a few days before that he wanted to take a month off to promote his cd? WTF?

Now, I can understand what you're saying and I think you have a point....to a point.

But once again, you're being just as ignorant as them if you simply ask yourself what's the color of this guy behind the words or the voice.

Nobody made T.O. complain about his contract after signing it the previous year.

Nobody made Artest jump into the stands.

Those are both things that the media would've jumped on if the players were purple.

No, dude...if anything you being on the "other side" is making it impossible for YOU to see anything as they are.

For example Look at H.Ward with the Steelers, he's a hold out but I'm on his side.

Guess what, he didn't sign a long-term deal LAST year, and decide to hold out a YEAR later.

Your ignorant, and I hope one day you can see it.

If Marcus Tubbs stepps up and actually plays like a First Rounder then we might have a chance. When are people going to start ripping this supposed Defensive Guru in Ray Rhodes, I hate when the Media throws out these labels and non educated Sports fans just agree with it.

Being in a division with Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Rasaad Woods, Fitzgerald, Boldin and Bryant Johnson we need bigger corners not guys who are 5 9". Money can't be the only reason the Titans dumpede Dyson either.

By the way if anonymous thinks Niko is showing good progress then why in the hell did Seattle sign Sharper, and Kevin Bentley then trade up to get a projected 6th rounder in the 2nd.

Whoa I agree with anonymous for the first time (is it even the same guy??)

All of you need to stop coming on these boards and posting saying why can't we get this player and why can't we get that player. Both the NFL and the NBA have this thing that is called THE SALARY CAP and unfortunately even teams here in Seattle have to live by the rules of the THE SALARY CAP.

Therefore, if your decent but not great corner Lucas goes for 6 years 37 million and you can sign TWO good CBs for less than him you say PEACE! Black, you ever think that maybe the reason that Lucas did so wells was because Trufant was shutting down the other half of the field? Is Trufant, Dieon Sanders material yet? No, but what he does do is make the other CB better because he can play 1 on 1 coverage most of the time.

As for the rest of our D it is simple, if we can put pressure on the QB we will win and if we can't than we won't. There is a reason that STL came back on us and that is because Bulger set up a lawn chair in the pocket had a cocktail ate some dinner and oh yeah then decided to throw the ball 40 yards down field. NO PRESSURE

Finally, I hate to dissapoint all of you guys but even if the Seahawks are slightly better than they were last year they arent going to win 10-12 games. Unfortunately they were the division winners last year look at their schedule:

@Jax
ATL
ARI
@Wash
@STL
HOU
DAL
@ARI
STL
@SF
NYG
@PHI
SF
@Tenn
INDY
@GB

- That is just brutal man. The Hawks start off on the road (three time zones away) and at home against Michael Vick: probably 0-2

- Hopefully they can stil beat AZ, but then you have two more back to back long road trips leaving you probably 1-4 (maybe 2-3)

- You get two more home games against decent teams they should probably beat leaving them 3-4 (4-3)

- Have the bye week which the Hawks are historically pitiful after going into AZ..probably a loss: 3-5 (4-4)

- ST Louis at home, @SF and NYG are MUST wins: 6-5 (7-4)

- @PHI...can you say blow out? 6-6 (7-5)

- SF another MUST win game: 7-6 (8-5)

- @Tenn, INDY and @ GB is the nail in the coffin there is NO WAY they go any better than 1-2 in that stretch unless the other teams are resting their starters.

That leaves your record at: 8-8 or 9-7 (if everything falls right)

Will that be good enough to win the NFC West? Who knows but anyone thinking we have 10-12 win potential is smoking crack.

Black, really nice. Good job.

I'm glad you've read the book, now UNDERSTANDING it is the next step.

Diezel-

Sharper is an oustide linebacker, and Bentley as well.

We only had one middle linebacker and that was Niko.

That is why we drafted a Lofa, and because the coaches LOVED what they saw on film.

He basically encompasses what Ruskell wants in a football player.

So we have two young unproven players with potential in the middle, hopefully one steps up.

Also, in regards to Dyson the Titans have no money. They let alot of qualiity players leave, like Derrick Mason...so don't read to much into that.

I love Rhodes attitude, but I think Martz knows how to exploit his schemes. Evidence = 3 losses to the Rams last year.

I hope the health of our players will give Rhodes enough weapons to create a top 15 defense.

We'll see.

The offense should be top 5 easily.

Anonymous said...

This is how I break it down.

@Jax = Either way
ATL = Either way
ARI = Win
@Wash = Win
@STL = Loss
HOU = Win
DAL = Win
@ARI = Win
STL = Either way
@SF = Win
NYG = Win
@PHI = Loss
SF = Win
@Tenn = Win
INDY = Loss
@GB = Loss

So that's four losses and 3 games that could swing either way.

9-12 wins.

On the other hand, we have no idea at this point.

The NFL is unpredictable and there will be plenty of injuries.

So, to get too high on them now or too low is a mistake.

Nothing is won or lost looking at the schedule.

P.S. Did anyone just watch McNabb fire back at Owens. Wow.

anonymous... I agree with u on the offensive side of the ball, especially if Jeremy ever lives up to the Hype, I love my Dawgs but if he doesn't produce this year you gotta cut the cord. According to KJR yesterday looks like Kaz might be starting tonight.

I just wonder if Ruskell made a good choice in picking Lofu when they could have had Channing Crowder whos a stud has the size and speed some off the field issues, but a stud none the less.

If Terrell Bierra can cover someone this year the Secondary should be one of our stronger points though because of the depth.

Very interesting guy.

What about him?

How can u count Dallas, Washington,and Giants as automatic wins you don't remember Julius Jones gashing on us on monday night last year. And U remember what happened last time we went to Washington???? Hasselbeck YACKED it!!!!!! and the Giants are going to be way improved this year. I am thinking 8 wins can win the West.

I think the Rams are to us as the Niners were to the Rams in the early to late 90's DOMANATING!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I think Ruskell did a incredible job, except for the draft.

And I love the Chris Spencer pick, that guy is a beast.

Lofa = reach, but the Patriots wanted him badly...and that's always a good sign.

The biggest mistake was the David Greene pick when we already had Seneca.

I wanted Blackstock or Matt Roth...we just need more pass rushers.

I'm getting worried, they need to do anything they can to get Peter Boulware rushing on 3rd downs.

You're forgetting the obvious, there IS NOT ONE GAME on the schedule that is for sure a win or a loss right now.

All I can do is look at the schedule and ask myself who has more talent and do I think they match up well. The actual on-field result could be much different.

Dallas, was a win last year. Just the other week an official said they should've overturned the Keyshawn touchdown. And that doesn't count all the luck they got in order to win that game. The run defense will be much improved.

The Redskins game was a disgrace and Hasselbeck didn't play that bad, and it was actually Darrell Jackson who dropped a ball that hit him straight in the hands...and then fell into Smoots hands. And that doesn't count the lucky play of stripping Damien Robinson from behind when he was about to score a touchdown that would've put the game out of reach. More bad luck.

The Giants have Eli Manning. Enough said.

Diezel said...

anonymous... I agree I guess we have to wait until the season starts. That Redskins game was brutal though.

Anonymous said...

It was brutal, but so were the Bengals and Ravens games.

All "should" have been wins. But that's what happens sometimes.

Seneca Wallace dominating.

He looks like Michael Vick out there.

D.J. Hackett also impressive.

After all the reports of Urban's hard work I was hoping that would translate to production on the field.

It's going to be a close race, right now I'd have to go with:

Jackson
Engram
Pathon
JJ
Hackett
Bannister (Holmgren says he has a roster spot, special teams gunner)

Impressive first half for the Hawks.

Only downside was Andre Dyson attempting to tackle the fullback and getting ran over.

Out for the game with a neck stinger, let's hope he's alright.
