SONICS SIGN RADMANOVIC TO ONE YEAR DEAL

SONICS SIGN VLADY TO ONE YEAR CONTRACT

As we have reported on 950, KJR’s Locked on Sports for most of the off-season the Sonics and Vlady Radmanovic were unable to find common ground on a long term contract. Instead, today the Sonics signed Radmanovic to the one year tender contract. This makes Radmanovic a free agent after the season. It also restricts the Sonics ability to trade him.
The ideal situation for the Sonics would have been to come a long term agreement. However, the asking price from the Radmanovic camp was more then they were willing to commit to. The Radmanovic camp thought the contracts of Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Samuel Dalembert and Bobby Simmons set the market where the Sonics didn’t feel those were appropriate comparisons.
Dave Bauman, Radmanovic’s agent, said during the process that if Radmanovic signed the tender it was his first step out the door and was a sign of lack of commitment from the Sonics that Radmanovic would not forget going into free agency. Time will tell if that was negotiation bluster or if the Sonics have just taken the first step to losing a key piece.
Radmanovic is also in the news today for a fight he got in with a Serbian teammate at the World Championship in the locker-room after their shocking loss to France.

First off who is the guy that Vlade threw down with?? Vlade couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag. I am sooo scratching my head on this one, a unhappy soft whiner playing under a one year deal. His agent continually said that if he signed the one year deal that he would be gone, so why didnt the soncis sign and trade or just resind his rights and gone after another free agent. Is vlade even going to start?? I personally would start either Nick or Reggie.

so now its set we are going into the season with the exact same roster minus are 6th man and our size at center. We added Mikki Moore and Ric Brunson from the Clippers way to freakin go wally/rick.

I love the signing of Will by the lakers I know Locke alwayz is hating on him but wtf does Locke really know. I love his show cuz he's funny and I like stats but sometime the guy flip flops more than John Kerry!! take the M's young players for instance.

Locke alwayz hates on the local guys...i.e Reggie, Jason Terry, Jamal Crawford, Will he's got no local love!!!

His favorite athletes are probably steve young, ty detmer, robbie bosco guys like that!!

Diezel,
So if we recinded his rights and got that 2-3 million back for him on our cap who would we have picked up that was better than him?? At least he has some skills that the Sonics could use. I dunno though maybe we could have used that 3 million to sign some other guys you all would bitch about getting.

I have never been a Vlade fan and I think that this offseason showed that the rest of the league isnt either. Everyone thinks he is a good shooter but it sure seems to me that he is just a guy that shoots alot (it will go in some of the time..). During games you can never count on him to be consistent you are either going to get the 5-8 17pt game from Vlade or the 1-8 3 pt game...no in betweens.

As for Vlade I think that he really f'd things up for himself. This guy is always injured at some point of the season, what teams are going to want to throw big money to him next year if he goes out and injures himself again?

Biggest problem as Sonics fans is if he decided to go against the Team Concept to get his numbers and starts to bring the whole team down with him.

And then there's me who blogs during free time at work, that I got a degree at UW to get (making about 5 times minimum wage). And I'll bet a paycheck that if you saw my girl, your chin would hurt from it falling to the floor. Also I'm not quite 30 yet, but thanks, "pedro".

Anyways, F the dumb sh*t, I feel I need to set the record straight about something. The other day I'm unfortunatly passing the time by listening to the worst sports radio tandem in history (groz with gas) and I heard them say that no one likes Barry Bonds anymore. Incorrect, the truth is; White people don't like Barry anymore (for the most part) but black folks, we love Barry, always will. So sorry Groz with Gas but there is a large part of the population that you do NOT speak for, thanks!!! Jackasses.

Vlade's agent is a fool for turning down a six-year, $42 million offer! Maybe his agent missed the NBA 3-point contest - yikes. This guy is always injured (as myk pointed out) and has much to prove. I'm thankful that the Sonics did not up the offer. Let's see if Vlade can back this risky move with his game. I'm betting he doesn't stay healthy for the entire season.

Black / Diezel / Myk,

WTF, is this the best management could do? The Sonics are still going to be caped out next year when Vlade leaves for nothing. I’m glad we have him for now but this is bad business. Winning teams don’t let assets walk for nothing.

All it is going to take is one dumb ass GM to give Vlade 50-60 million and he is gone at the end of the year (Joe Johnson anyone?). At this point he will probably leave for equal money just because he is a bitch and demands to start. The Sonics probably could have pulled Swift from the Griz for Vlade and now he is waiting to leave for nothing. If I’m repeating myself it is because I still can’t believe Sonics management thinks this is a good way to run a winning team. Does everyone understand that we now can’t trade Vlade no matter how much of a selfish distraction he becomes? BTW, you all know Vlade is going to walk all over coach Bob right?

I’ll still watch most games on TV and I’ll go to see Lebron but that is it. I’m not going to buy tickets and support this team financially after an off season like this. Please sell the team Schultzy, please. I want to be able to sit back and trust management again. Sell the team for the fans sake.

What do you guys think?

Biggie said...

I agree, Schultz should sell the team. I could care less however if Vlade leaves, I'm not a Vlade fan. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, but never frickin do!!!!! I just don't care anymore my mind is completly tied up w/ football right now. The Sonics can kiss my ass right now, I hate the direction that this team is going in and what I'm about to say is blasphemy as I was born and raised in the 206, but I am almost, almost ready to follow Nate with my basketball loyalty. I'm not quite ready to utter something like "GO BLAZ---" yet, but I am frickin close. This is just ridiculous. I HATE the management of this team, I love my Sonics, I just hate the people in charge!!!

Myk said...

Sonics EJ,

- Signing Vlade had nothing to do with our chances in signing Swift, we offered him a comprable contract that Houston gave him and he decided to go to Houston. Therefore getting Vlade off the books would have done nothing.

- I don't know the cap exactly but it seems like if we aren't capped out now then why would be next year? The only way we cap ourselves out is to do stupid things like signing Evans to a long term deal. If we can fill out our roster with one year contracts we still should have money next year. That money could be used to sign someone like Eddy Curry who is also signing the tender..if we so choose.

- I don't buy tickets to Sonics games anyway, while I make much more than minimum wage (a'la Black) I just can't justify spending $80 bucks to watch something I can watch on TV for free. Especially when only half the seats are full making it not a very energetic arena.

- There are two ways to look at the Sonics right now. Either last year was a fluke and they got really lucky, which means this year we are going to go 30-52. Or that last year we caught on to something and an additional year will lead them to a comprable record. Honestly I am not sure which one to believe but it should be interesting to find out. A quick start is a must.

Myk said...

Black,

How on Earth could you compare the ownership groups of the Blazers and the Sonics and go hmmm year the Sonics are the ones that are doing a poor job?

The Blazers are a perfect example of why you don't just go out and waste your money on players hoping one will turn out. They are the anti-sonics in every way and that is why they went from being a 15 straight year play off team to crap last year.

Myk said...

Black,

Also, I am white and I think Barry Bonds is the greatest baseball player of all time. I am not someone who lets the fact that he is a dick cloud my judgement and therefore think that he sucks it just doesn't make sense.

I love that he has already hit 5HRs since he came back. Since he got tested for Steroids just like everyone else that either means the juice sure didn't do much for him or he is really really really good at hiding it.

If you ever get a chance in the next year (time is running out) go down to SBC Park and watch him play in a home game. I still remember when I was younger and Jr. would come up and the whole Kingdome started to buzz. Well when Bonds comes up the anticpation is something like 1000xs more than that, which is amazing since there is a 75% chance you are just going to see him walk. Literally every one stops talking to their neighbor, chatting on the cell phone or buying concessions to turn and watch him. It is nice to know at least those people understand that they are literally watching the greatest baseball player to ever walk the earth.

Biggie said...

Myk,

I did say for the most part, I know I'm being rash on the Supes but don't mind me I'm not thinking about hoops right now at all so my thoughts on the subject are somewhat discombobulated (probably misspelled). With one exeption I'm glad the huskies got a commitment fron that Pondexter kid from Cali. I'm still a Sonic fan no matter what kind of drastic sh*t I say I'll be a sonic fan until the day I die. Sadly I'm this way with every seattle team, EJ (with your dumbass Raiders). LOL

Black,

since you did not explain your claim to post the radmanovic news before locke. i assume you are a liar as well as a jerk. you have intelligence but misuse it. if you want me to bring something harder, try this:

Righteousness arises out of wrongs, personal and past, which may be horrible and unforgiveable. It can lead to feelings of indignation and hostility. It is natural. But you have to have self-control of hostility. It will eat up your message and even your righteousness if you let it consume you.. Maintain integrity, live with pride but keep faith with what is right with righteous behavior. Save the energy of hostility for when what is right is truly under attack. Those times come but one must not waste strength. Don’t make more enemies and indifferent bystanders to what is right by doing what is wrong. When you no longer practice righteousness, the right no longer knows you and no longer gives you its strength or protection.

now i will leave. cause this place doesnt do anything for me.

EJ,
Yes Black caught the ones I had, I know there have been like two other times where Replay has just totally killed us, but as I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of every play in Seahawks history I had to stick with the ones that literally cost the Hawks games...not lame ass first half plays that could or could not have had anything to do with the outcome.

Sonic EJ said...

I knew you guys couldn’t pull up 5. LOL

Myk said...

Wow pretty good considering the Raiders have sucked the last two years and can't pull one. Maybe they arent as easy to remember as the Seahawks ones beacuse the ones against us actually effected the playoff picture. Only thing it could have done for the Raiders was effect their draft position...

looks like GP has a great chance to get a ring this year, he just signed a 1yr 1.1mil contract w/ the Heat.

Biggie said...

Man I am just livid, on the 2livestews today for their trivia thursday, for $2000 the question was "Where did Warren Moon play his college ball?", The caller said "Miami" WTF, I wish I would have called then, anyways they'll flip the money and ask another question tomorrow.

Diezel said...

obviously Buford of San Antonio was smart enough to realize that even though they won the championship they still had some holes to fill i.e. Michael Finley and Nick Van exel. U look at there startin 5 of parker, ginobli, bowen, duncan, and nazi to go with a bench of Horry, finley and nick, and rsho thats a nice rotation against ours of Rasard, ray, luke, nick, and potopenko with a bench of reggie, damien, flip, ric brunson, mikki moore, and a pissed off Vlade and u expect us to contend for a ring with
that rotation.

I will agree with the fact that Vlade deserves as much as kwame Brown not that either are worth it but thats market value.

I guess the usa today was flat out lying then when they said that us and the cavs had the same amount of cap space yet they signed Big Z, donyell marshall, larry hughes and damon jones and we get mikki moore and brunson.

frekin Ray charles could see we had a bad off season. I will still go to the games as every year i buy one of the 20 game packs so i can see live the likes of lebron, yao, t mac, kobe, AI, melo those cats, but if they have a rough start all those on the wagon at the end of the season will abort real quick then with a half full key arena what is wally and schultz gonna do then. I like tullys better anyway!!!!!!!!

Myk said...

Diezel...

So, lets see all the players that were signed by your two teams:

Finley
Van Exyl
Hughes
Ilgluaskus
Jones
Donyell Marshall

What combination of those guys could we have signed that would have made you go..well yes we are going to go for the title this year. Now remember that if you sign Hughes or Ilgluaskus to get the cap space you can't sign Ray and you must renounce the rights to Vlade, Reggie and Damien (Flip too but who cares).

The only thing I could see they could have done better in this situation is if the signed Donyell and didn't sign Vlade but really are they that different of players.

Lets say this for the 1,000,000th time all you want is change to have change. You bitch and moan about moves that made no sense for the Sonics.

Yeah lets sign Damon Jones another REALLY small PG who shoots all the time.

Yeah lets sign Larry Hughes who has had one good year his whole career (and underachived the rest of it) instead of signing Ray Allen a top 3 SG

Yeah lets sign Donyell Marshall because he is so good he is that missing piece.

Yeah lets sign Nick Van Exyl, oh wait I forgot he only wanted to play in Texas...is Seattle in Texas I forgot.

Yeah lets sign Michael Finley and not sign any of our restricted Free Agents. He has sooooo much left in the tank.

Yeah lets sign Ilgauskus and give up our rights to all of our RFAs and his really slow running up and down the court would be such a good fit with the rest of the guys we have on our team.

Yeah why didn't we draft either Nate Robinson or Jarret Jack (via trade up) because you know I was looking at our team and the one thing we needed was yet another small PG!

Honestly, if you can't see how obvious all of these moves are and why they do nothing for the Sonics then you are just stupid and you should stop watching the Sonics.

It is pretty plain and simple. There is simply nothing you can say that disputes these things...the Sonics needed certain things on their team and they weren't available on the FA market you can't just wave your magic wand and have the stud player you want out there. There is a reason they are studs. Does this mean I think the Sonics are going to win the Finals next year? Nope. I just have to deal with that.

Changing your team is 100xs harder in the salary cap era. If this were baseball and there was no salary cap and there were guys like Chandler available and the Sonics didn't make an offer yes I would be pretty angry at the Sonics but that isn't how it works in the NBA. Quit bitching about your fantasy world and just enjoy the real one.

Sonic EJ said...

I hear you Diezel. This off season was weak.

Gary Payton is going to get a ring in Miami. For sure.

Myk said...

EJ,

What would you like to bet that Miami does not win the title this year...

Sonic EJ said...

Myk,

It is kind of hard to bet since this is a blog. If this were in-person I would let you decide how much money you wanted to through down and we would have a bet.

So I think you should pick a team and we can just bet to bet. (If you don’t pick the Spurs or the Rockets you really are crazier than I thought)

Barring massive injury problems I am sure the Heat are going to win the title this year.

BTW even if there was not a deal the Sonics could have made to win something this year, it would have been nice to see some progress. I feel like they took a small step backward this off season.

This is how I look at it:

Best case the Sonics are primed to make it to the second round again and worst case they might miss the playoffs entirely. (I can’t believe it, they really have become the Dallas Mavericks)

16 teams make the playoffs each year. That is over half the league. I look at it like graduating from HS. If you can’t do it, you have problems.

Making it to the second round was great last year because we had not been there in years. That being said, I still think the second round of the playoffs is the top of being mediocre in the NBA.

All I ask is that the team not be mediocre. I used to be a Seahawks fan and I have had enough mediocre for two lifetimes. Find a way to be real good (Conference Finals) or real bad (top 5 draft pick, Greg Oden?).

Is that too much to ask?

Myk said...

EJ,

- Why can't I take the field? If you are so sure that the Heat are going to win the title who cares who I pick? If I had to pick a team (in the East) it would be Indiana and in the West I would chose the Spurs. I dont think the Rockets have a chance either...why do you guys think Swift is like some all-star he hasn't shown anything but inconsistent play in Memphis?

- You say:

"BTW even if there was not a deal the Sonics could have made to win something this year, it would have been nice to see some progress. I feel like they took a small step backward this off season."

What progress would you like a team to make if there were no deals out there? You make absolutely no sense with that comment. Whatever happened to counting on your players getting better?

Look everyone on this blog understands that it is easy to be frustrated with mediocrity but why bitch and moan about things that don't make any sense? If you bitch about everything that makes it harder for the management to understand when they have really done something wrong...

b_con said...

You guys should become GM's. Your ideas are like, SOOO good! I'm really glad there is a quality site like this where quality opinions can be shared without fear of namecalling or fingerpointing. Oh yeah, Luke, Ray, Rashard, Nick, and Swift or Petro are the future of the sonics. It would be nice if Vlade stuck around to be the 6th man, but I doubt he'll accept that role and reasonable pay. Potato/Moore are here to bridge the gap at center. We'll fill our bench with veterans to play alongside the starting 5 a la detroit. It will be great. You are all dumbasses and I'm going to own your asses in say... 3 years.
