LIVE BLOG -- SONICS V. KINGS 2nd half GAME 4

WE ARE SPLITTING THE BLOG BECASUE WE ARE LOSING INFO.
Please place any questions or comments in the comment area and I will try to get to them

SONICS WIN !!!!! 115-102 -- they lead the Series 3-1

Ray Allen did what special players do. They win games. They dominate. They reach a level where they are unstoppable. Flat out sick, wicked and nasty.
The Sonics defense was outstanding in the second half. That they were able to switch from as the first half to the second half is shocking.
What the Kings will do next will be very interesting.
One of the toughest things to do in basketball is to knock a team out of the playoffs who are playing for their lives. However, no one is sure what the Kings are going to do.

SONICS 114 KINGS 100 with :24 left.
Ray just equalled the Sonics record of 45 points in a playoff game.

SONICS 111 KINGS 98 with :41
A 30 point second half by the Kings. The Sonics whose defense could not have been worse in the first half dominated in the second half.
Reggie Evans is screaming it is cold in here, it is cold in here. He may be talking about the Kings offense.
It looks like a fire alarm just went off in the building.

SONICS 109 KINGS 98 with :54
Mike Bibby is 4 of 17 from the field and has just missed two free throws
Luke Ridnour made both free throws and Ray Allen has willed the Sonics to a win.

SONICS 107 KINGS 98 with 1:02 left.
ALLEN JUST RIPPED THE KINGS HEART OUT WITH A FALL AWAY THREE AS THE SHOT CLOCK SOUNDED. THE BASKET FOR RAY IS BIG !!!!!

SONICS 104 KINGS 98 with 1:27 left.
AD runner puts Seattle up 7.
Bibby hits 1 of 2 free throws

SONICS 102 KINGS 97 with 2:39 left
Allen misses off a pick and roll with Collison.
Allen and Lewis run the pick and roll. Lewis fouled hits both free throws. Sonics by 7.
Miller has 5 fouls

SONICS 100 KINGS 95 with 3:51 left.
Nick Collsion just took his third charge of the Quarter.
Sonics are gassed -- great timeout by Nate

SONICS 98 KINGS 91 with 5:23 left
Jerome James has been great on the boards. Particuallrly on the defensive side.
Of course as Jerome works as soon as type that he brutalizes a possession by not screening out Mike Bibby on the shot and gives up an offensive rebound.
RAY ALLEN HAS 40 !!!!!!
Fred Brown has the Sonics playoff high with 45
Ray Allen's career high is 47
Ray Allen's playoff career high is 41

SONICS 97 KINGS 90 with 6:15 left
Collison on the pick and roll from Allen puts the Sonics back up 7.
The Kings have only scored one of their last 7 possessions.
The Kings have just 22 points since halftime. That is over 18 minutes.

SONICS 95 KINGS 88 with 7:25 left
Kings just got their first offensive rebound of the second half.
RAY ALLEN AGAIN.
Nick Collison has taken two charges in the 4th Quarter.
Lewis misses a wide open three that would have put the Sups up 7.
Antonio banks a three and the foul -- Sonics by 7. They trailed 41-22.

SONICS 90 KINGS 88 with 9:13 left.
Lewis enters as does Peja.
Sonics have the ball with a chance to take the lead for the first time since the 1st Q
RAY ALLEN BURIES THE SICKEST THREE WITH TWO GUYS ON HIM. HE STROLLED AROUND THE ARCH AND THEN JUST EXPLODED!!! SONICS LEAD

KINGS 88 SONICS 87 with 10:00 left
On the floor to start the 4th: AD, RA, VR, Danny and Nick. Fortson only lasts :50 seconds. JJ in. Kings are going three guards.
Bobby Jackson is on Ray Allen.
Ray Allen is in a different place. 35 points.

KINGS 84 SONICS 80 end of 3rd Quarter
Here we go !!!!!!
Ray Allen has been amazing with 30 points. He is doing what great playoff players do. He is making plays when their is nothing left on the floor. The Kings are surrounding him and they still can't stop him.
The Kings never got their high post offense rolling in the 3rd Quarter.

KINGS 82 SONICS 76 with :52 seconds left in the 3rd Q
Strange match-ups. The Sonics have Vlady guarding Mobley. Can they exploit it on the other side.
Mobley just hit a three

KINGS 75 SONICS 73 with 2:51 in the 3rd
"Give it to the man and boom goes the dynamite."
Check out the video of the worst sportcaster ever lower down on the blog and you will get why Kevin just said that on Ray Allen's three.

KINGS 75 SONICS 70 with 3:17 left in the 3rd Q
This is agonizing. Both teams have gone brutally cold and sloppy
The Sonics have blown 5 straight chances to get it to three points.
Vlady through a terrible pass to James and on the possession before he got stuck and the offense broke down.
Here comes the Seattle bench. AD in for Luke. This group killed the Sonics in the 3rd Quarter.
In the first

KINGS 75 SONICS 70 with 4:14 left in the 3rd Q
I just saw the first nervous body langugue from the Kings. Mobley missed a three and jumped up and down about how big it would have been.
Seattle has blown three chances to get it to one possessions.

KINGS 75 SONICS 70 with 5:34 left in the 3rd
This arena is different all of a sudden.
The crowd is beginnig to get anxious.
But Seattle can't get the stop they need.
Seattle can't have the mental breakdowns they had at the end of quarter 1 and 2.

KINGS 70 SONICS 62 with 8:14 left in the 3rd
Great flurry by the Sonics have them knocking on the door.
In Game 3 they could never make what I call the nervous basket or nervous stop. The basket or stop that makes the Kings realize their backs are against the walls. Will they tonight?

KINGS 72 SONICS 66 with 7:07 left.
The defensive intensity is much better. Moreover, they are handling the game on the boards.
Are the Kings nervous? They will be if the Sonics can get a stop and a bucket cutting it to 4.

what if anything is Nate doing different as far as game calling is concerned when compared to Games 1&2?

MattB said...

All I can guess is to keep reiterating Defense. Good defense will lead to turnovers and easy buckets in transition, something the kings have been doing well so far.

DJ Chameleon said...

Rashard is playing well. The sonics have only allowed 10 points so far with 7:56 left. Much better defense. We now have a chance.

Wow. What a fake wraparound by Ray Allen. Now down 6 with 7:16 left. We have ourselves a game.

DJ Chameleon said...

Locke, I hope wyou will be able to stitch these two blogs together after the game.

Back to the game.

Miller is still hurting us. At least he missed the first free throw.

DJ Chameleon said...

The Kings sure can't complain about the officiating tonight. I am never one to complain and I don't think the Sonics are getting the short end of the refereeing. It is just that almost every time the Kings drive and there is contact there is a foul called.

That is twice now that Ray has stolen the ball and finished this quarter. He is such a stud.

DJ Chameleon said...

We need to keep the game tight and the Kings will crack. We are deadly in the forth quarter in tight games.

DJ Chameleon said...

All three of Ray's steals are off of Bibby. We are still within 5. Must keep the pressure on through the end of the quarter. Maybe even grab a lead if we can find the energy to keep the defense tight. Great three. Down two.

MattB said...

OH YEAH, that 3 gave us some momentum now. Dang, too bad on that Fortson TO, coulda tied this puppy up. Other than that Turnover we are playing MUCH better D.

Myk said...

The reason the Kings get the calls when they drive to the hoop is because they jump into the defender and create contact..

DJ Chameleon said...

Here is the entire first half blog.

One complaint while I wait for the game...Can you tell mitch the next time he pimps for Comcast ask them why in the hell the city with the most HD TVs per capita is down the list when they add HD channels. Comcast issues a press release about how they now have TNT HD just in time for the playoffs...except that the seattle MSO doesn't freaking have it yet.

How does arco feel before this game as opposed to the last game? My guess is that last game was more nervousness whereas this game is pure excitement.

Just like I said during game 3, we need to get Rashard the ball in the post early. Let's see if the Sonics can do that.

As a kings fan I love this tempo.

7:50 PM
MattB said...

Wow Miller is hitting like crazy, might as well see if he can knock a 3 down. Lets see if the Sonics bench can get something going.

7:56 PM
Andy said...

That is his shot...he will hit 80% of those. If james keeps sagging off so far Miller will score 50.

7:57 PM
MattB said...

From what I have been noticing, the Kings weakpoint is the paint area. We need to be attacking more becuase the jumpers arent goin down consistantly.

Ugh! Horrible five-point play for the Kings!

It looks like the Sonics are a little confused on defense. They seem like they are yelling at each other a lot, trying to communicate. Hope they get it cleared up ...

8:07 PM
DJ Chameleon said...

5 points in the last 1.3 is a crusher. This game is looking exactly like game three so far. Hang in there for first 6 minutes, fall behind by double digits at the end of the first quarter. Let's hope we don't fall behind by 21 in the second like we did in game three.

The sonics look a step slow in this game...even worse than game 3. That end of the quarter might suck more life out of them.

8:09 PM
MattB said...

A Fast start to this quarter is all we need to get some momentum. If the Sonics score on thier first few possesions, they should be able to hang with the Kings this quarter. I still say feed it to the bigs to start off.

IT'S OVER ALREADY--The loudest arena in the NBA, Jerome James realizing he's Jerome James, Rashard Lewis is invisible ...and those ugly yellow duds....2-2 and momentum .....see ya in San Antone...and Ray Allen will be a Cav next year.

The coaching staff needs to step up ... The team looks confused by the high post offense ...

8:12 PM

To that last post, It's ony the Second quarter how can you say it's over. Obviously he's just another trash talker that doesnt know a thing about basketball. Turnovers are killing us again!

Nate loves to talk about respecting the game. Like the Kings in Game 2, these players obviously aren't. Where is Damien Wilkins?

8:14 PM
John said...

Antonio Daniels is awful. He's playing selfish and not playing any D. He went for the shot, complained and jogged up the court while Sac was on a fast break. Just terrible.

8:15 PM
MattB said...

A few more buckets by the Kings and we will have no life at all. It seems like we cant string anything together tonight.

8:15 PM
Cap said...

Bibby shouldn't have had a chance at that rebound which led to the fast break dunk. The team isn't playing ball the right way...boxing out, playing help defense, and generally being the aggressor on defense.

8:16 PM
Myk said...

The team is playing completely awful. How come they can't see that everytime they take the ball to the hoop things go good. Instead they hang out at the 3 point line until 8 seconds on the clock and then force the shot.

BE THE AGGRESSORS!

8:16 PM
DJ Chameleon said...

Am I watching game three or game four? This looks like an instant replay. Why are we commiting so many turnovers? It doesn't look to me like the Kings are playing great defense but we sure are out of our rhythmn.

Good Spurt..Only question I have is why isn't Reggie playing more...I think they should stick him on Miller and try to get him out of his game...

We made a good run at the same point in the 2nd quarter in game three also. This is way too eiry.

Nice 90-second exhange by the Supes. Force tough shots, rebound, and run. I thought that Rashard's recognition and kick-out of the lane on the forced fast break was a great play. He didn't get the AST, but he made that 3 happen by not forcing the ball to the hole.

8:21 PM
DJ Chameleon said...

I like the fact we are getting the ball to Rashard in a variety of ways. Not just posting him up on the left block so much.

DJ Chameleon said...

Now we are playing Sonics basketball! It is about time we played some defense. Lead down to 7. Sacramento will start feeling the pressure soon. Now Jerome gets the slam on the break and the free throw.

All is forgiven. go Sonics.

Cap said...

2 nice looks by Ray on the break. Looks like the Kings are a bit tired, maybe Brad Miller is slowing down.

8:26 PM
wOg said...

Vlady needs to give Kenny Thomas something to do ... Take him to the hole, Vlad-man!

8:27 PM
DJ Chameleon said...

Interesting idea to start posting Ray Allen on Mobley. Let's see how that plays out.

8:28 PM

Myk said...

It would be nice if our guards could learn from Bibby and everytime you go into the lane just jump into a defender..you will get a foul at least 75% of the time

8:32 PM
MattB said...

It looks like Ray is gonna keep attacking. That's the weakness for the kings, they cant stop the Sonics from getting to the cup.

8:32 PM
Andy said...

Mobley on allen is a huge mismatch. The kings need to adjust or Ray will continue to score at will.

8:32 PM
Cap said...

Interesting, indeed. Mobley can't guard an old lady at this point. Seems like Ray can get off with regularity on him.

Supes are back to not playing smart defense. Maybe I'm a homer, but it seems as though the Kings are getting a lot more calls than the Supes are. Maybe it's a result of being more aggressive, I dunno. But the Kings are receiving the majority of the calls from what I'm seeing.

8:33 PM
Myk said...

Every shot the Sonics take should be a dunk or a lay up the Kings play no interior defense...

8:34 PM
MattB said...

If the Sonics can keep this thing down to a 5 point lead that outta give them some confidence goin into the half. They were down 13 at one point.

8:35 PM
Cap said...

Actually, the Supes were down 19 early in the second quarter. OK defense and good offense brought them back.

Rashard should have had that pass in the paint. Big time players make a play in that situation in the playoffs.

8:37 PM
DJ Chameleon said...

They were down by 19 briefly.

MattB said...

We are getting killed on the offensive glass today, why isn't Danny in there?

8:39 PM
Myk said...

I just dont think the Sonics have the mental toughness to impose their will on the defensive end. The Kings are a good offensive team and seem to be able to score at will. It is going to be almost impossible to get over the hump if we don't play good D for more than 2 minutes at a time

8:41 PM
DJ Chameleon said...

Down 60 - 52 with 1:02 left. Moral victory to keep it in single digits but way to high scoring and to high a tempo for my taste.

Sacramento is back in their comfort zone. They are scoring at will. Very bad sign. I can only hope Nate can make some halftime adjustments to tighten our defense.

8:42 PM

MattB said...

WAY to many turnovers. You cant have 3 turnovers in 3 minutes and expect to win ballgames. Like DJ said, hopefully we can keep this thing in single digits.

8:43 PM
Andy said...

Mike Bibby is definitely back to playoff form. And Peja seems to have come off of the milk carton to join the rest of us in this first round series.

8:45 PM
MattB said...

I am loosing hope fast here, If the Sups cant get this thing close before the end of the game we will have no confidence goin back to Seattle.

8:45 PM
Andy said...

Sonics shooting nearly 60% and trail by 12. Wow!

8:46 PM
DJ Chameleon said...

That is absolutely brutal. We can't let Bibby get open looks like that at the end of the quarters. Right now I hate to say it but we don't deserve to win this game. We have played token defense for all but a 4 minute stretch of the second quarter.

I expect Nate to tear a few new a** holes in the locker room.

8:46 PM
DJ Chameleon said...

We should be ashamed. Shooting 57% and still down 12. 68 points in the half. 17 more Field oal attempts by the Kings. We have committed 11 turnovers already. The Kings are outrebounding us for the first time all series. The only thing keeping this from a total embarrasment is our shooting.

The first 4 minutes of the third will tell all. If we don't fix these many faults in our game we will be bum rushed out of Sacramento with our tail between our legs.

8:50 PM

Cap said...

Seattle gave up 52 shots in the half, which is a horrible number in the playoffs. Supes are also getting out-rebounded by an average rebounding team.

8:51 PM
Andy said...

The kings will have at least 7 players in double figures by the end of the game.

8:51 PM
Cap said...

To add to what Cham said, the Supes don't need to dominate in the areas that they're currently deficient in order to win. A nominal increase in each area will gain more for the team than the sum of the individual parts.

8:54 PM
Andy said...

With Miller and Thomas in the mix the kings are no longer an average rebounding team.
The problem for the sonics is that the kings are a total wild card. They have the players of a great team...look at their roster...they haven't actually played together until this series so regular season stats and tendencies go out the window. And as I said before the longer this series goes the better the Kings will get.

8:55 PM
MattB said...

Take most of the turnovers away and we are easily within single digits. I havent been watching the game so can someone tell me how these turnovers were happening. Were Lewis and Ray just making stupid passes or were bibby and Peja swiping it from them?

Critical time of the game. Reserves need to hold the line.

:37 left in quarter. No late quarter meltdown please.

DJ Chameleon said...

Interesting. Normally we wouldn't bring Ray in at this point. Nate wants to make sure we score this last possession of the quarter.

MattB said...

Yes we need to keep attacking, Ray is keeping us in the game big time.

Myk said...

Why is it when a post guy is backing down on Danny it is a foul but everytime Rashard is trying to post up Stojakovic can push him and push him...

Danny complains way too much and acts like a child, but so do the refs by completely treating him in a different way.

Cap said...

Kings score 16 in the quarter. I missed it due to a prior commitment. Did the Supes play good defense, or did the Kings forget how to play O?

Andy said...

That quarter was at the pace and as physical as the sonics would like. The kings better pull thier heads out of their asses in the 4th quarter or this series is over.

DJ Chameleon said...

LKovely and elegant indeed. That is why Nate put Ray back in rather than rest him through the quarter. Finally we played defense on Bibby and didn't allow the easy three pointer.

84 - 80. We are in as good of position as we can ask for on the road playing as poor of defense as we did. If the Sonics pull out the win it would still qualify as a stolen victory because Sacramento has outplayed us most of the game. Still a win is a win. All we need is one solid quarter and the series is as good as over.

As Locke said in the pre-game show, 61 times the higher seed team has held a 3 - 1 lead in a best of seven series. 60 times that team went on to win the series. The next 12 minutes are the most important short of a fourth quarter in game seven.

Andy said...

Do they ever call a foul on a moving screen in the nba?

MattB said...

Danny is a foul machine, but it's his aggresivness that makes the Sonics D better.

DJ Chameleon said...

Give Ehlo credit for supporting the home team but that offensive call on Fortson was legitimate. i double checked on my PVR. Replay showed clearly Danny set a moving screen.

Myk said...

Kings are settling for jumpshots hope it continues...!

DJ Chameleon said...

What does it say about Jerome's play this series that he has 15 points and not one blogger is surprised at his production.

RAY ALLEN IS GOD.

He was double teamed at the three point line and all he does is fade back and hit a three for our first lead since 9 - 8 at 8:12 of the first quarter.

brett said...

Howard-

if there is such a thing as a "max player" you're looking at it

DJ Chameleon said...

We will win this game. We are playing defense and the starters got the rest they needed in the third quarter.

Great hustle by Collison. We are now in a grind it out half quart game. Unless something changes dramatically this game is as good as over.

Bank three. Foul called. 7 point lead and a free throw.

Bring on San Antonio.

brett said...

Howard-

if there is such a thing as a "max player" you're looking at it

Myk said...

Ray Allen...you are the man...

Why wasnt that a flagrent on Miller (fouling Nick) he wasnt going for the ball..obviously?

Myk said...

Brett there is no denying that Allen is a max player this year, next year and the year after. I just dont want to pay 16 mil per year to a 38 year old Reggie Miller clone..look what happened to Gary

DJ Chameleon said...

I agree. I have been supporting the Sonics position on salary negotiations because of Ray Allen's age. At this point just as Jerome is earning serious kaching so is Ray Allen.

Cap said...

Collison is key right now, indeed. Good plays on both sides of the ball for him in the fourth.

You really need a couple of plays per game go the way Daniels' shot fell, the bail-out 3 off the glass was hilarious.

DJ Chameleon said...

The moment Ray Allen hit the three for our first lead it looks like the Kings were spent. They have only scored on one of seven possessions since then.

wOg said...

A lot of what happened to Gary wasn't just age, it was attitude.

That said, I hope they reach a compromise ...

Cap said...

Agreed. Miller flailed his hands in disgust and the Kings have their hands on their hips. That's a great sign for the Supes.

DJ Chameleon said...

Jerome walked on that 360 jumper but who cares.

Myk said...

TAKE THE BALL TO THE HOLE..!!! STOP SETTLING FOR JUMPERS

DJ Chameleon said...

Last three possessions we have only been looking to shoot threes. great time out. We need to execute and take the ball to the hole. We will get fouled because the Kings are desperate to not allow any easy baskets.

All we need to do is attack the basket, hit our free throws and we will win.

Cap said...

That was a great shot by Bibby...shooting from Oakland...

DJ Chameleon said...

What was Bibby thinking? That is twice this series he has shot a panic three with plenty of time on the shot clock.

Just as I expected as soon as Rashard drove to the basket the Kings fouled.

DJ Chameleon said...

There is something rather comical about the Kings crowd chanting defense. After all, they haven't seen them play any defense all year, why would they expect any now.

Myk said...

whoever wins this game wins the series

Myk said...

maybe they dont know what defense is so they think they are seeing it...

Cap said...

Holy cow, that 3 was clutch...

DJ Chameleon said...

I love Nate's timing on his time outs. This is a key possession. ray has not only missed his last three shots as Locke just said they have all been short. I see Jerome or Collison getting the ball inside off the pick and roll.

BTW, have we all already forgotten how essential we all thought it was that Fortson return to early season form if we wanted to advance. I agreed with that but right now it looks like we can win with only spot minutes from Fortson.

Back breaker by Ray Allen. Fallaway three as the shot clock ran out.

SSSSSTTTTTUUUUUDDDDD!!!!!

Myk said...

HOLY S@#$....Every send Ray a dollar tonight for the win that will make up for the money he would lose on his contract

MattB said...

How Sick was that 3 anyways?

Andy said...

Have to hand it to ray...he carried the team. The kings helped by falling apart on the offensive end and adleman helped by refusing to adjust.

Congrats Sonics. This is series will probably end next game.

MattB said...

Hey Wheres Andy? :)

Cap said...

It was flu-like, it was so sick.

Supes are hitting their free throws late, which is nice to see. Not a lot of teams can hit free throws, much less in crunch time.

MattB said...

I still cant Believe we came back from 19 down. The Kings had the Momentum and everything but the Sonics stepped up the D in the second half and gave Ray the ball.

DJ Chameleon said...

The Sonics did what championship contenders do. They executed in the fourth quarter and walked the Kings down one possession at a time. Great example of how controlling the tempo of play is essential to the Sonics success.

I would guess we held the Kings to under 45 possessions the second half after we must allowed over 50 in the first half.

Cap said...

Agreed on the point of giving Ray the ball. The game dynamics seemed to change when Ray controlled the ball. He's a big-time player who made great decisions every time down the court.

Myk said...

You know what...the Sonics really showed me somethng. They held the Kings to less points in the second half than they did in either of the QUARTERS in the first half...Good Defense Sonics

DJ Chameleon said...

I think we will put the Kings fans out of their misery and finish this series on Tuesday. I just hope we don't succumb to our inexperience and let up at all. Sacramento is a veteran team with a lot of pride. i expect them to attack us like they did in game three and the first half of game four. We will have to earn it but I have to believe we will.

Andy said...

You are going to win game 5...The kings have too many excuses to lose this series...that second half made me want to throw up. Terrible execution on offense and no energy on defense. We couldn;t even make a freaking free throw.

MattB said...

Andy, there is nothing you can do when a Superstar gets hot, just like Bibby did in game 3. Ray Allen was on fire and regardless of how good the Kings D was, they weren't going to stop him.
